Togaku Daruma Factory
Company information
In our Togaku company there is a belief that it was the minister Togaku at the temple in the city of Takasaki in Japan who invented the first toy called Daruma in honor of the saint Borchidharma. Whether this is true or legend, history is silent. But in the ancient books of Japan there is a mention that in the old days in some prefectures Daruma doll was also called Togaku, in honor of its creator.
In 1905 during the Russian-Japanese war, a young officer Mikhail from the Russian Empire gets to Japan, where he falls in love with a young Japanese woman Ameya. The girl's father had already been practicing for many years the craft learned from his grandfather of making Japanese Daruma dolls.
In the same years Mikhail marries Ameya and takes a new Japanese name Togaku. Thus was born Togaku Daruma Factory.

1999 year
Russia
The first batch of 100 Daruma dolls were brought to Russia. from 1999 to 2003 0 dolls were sold. All dolls were donated.
1973 year
USSR
Togaku from Japan comes to Omsk region at the age of 90 and gives his nephew Stepan (my grandfather) a Japanese souvenir - a Daruma doll. An article about it appears in the local newspaper Iskra. This is the first mention of the Daruma doll in the USSR.
2015 year
Russia
A patent for TM "Daruma" was obtained. Launch of dolls production in Russia.
2020 year
Russia - Japan
Launch of the project "New Life from a Seed in a Daruma Doll"
2024 year
Italy
Launch of Daruma dolls production in Italy. First dolls in Europe.
1905 - 1910 year
Japan
During these years, a new man from the Russian Empire comes into production and Togaku Daruma Factory is revived.
